All right Scott, I decided not to hijack and destroy your
Wake County Rutile thread with some of my photography. I
do hope to be able to contribute and add some decent pics
to your post at sometime, but this is not that time. Smiley Roll Eyes

However, I am not diverting from the subject line. This is still
a Wake County crystal with rutile. Infact, it's the one you
found and let me borrow to photograph, so I wanted to
show you the pics anyway. Let me get my excuses out
of the way first. Depth of field for focus is very narrow on
the Dino-Lite, so some areas are in focus and some aren't.
Calling my lighting set-up "primitive" is being too kind, so
because of the incredible reflection off the Golden Rutile,
it was especially hard to focus in on.
Maybe some other eternally struggling amateur
photographers will be able to enjoy and relate to the
progression pictured here. Wink

Besides for being beautiful smoky in color with good clarity
and of the Tessin habit, here's a picture of our seemingly
unexceptional subject.

But under the points, on the right side in the above pic,
is buried a treasure of Rutile in an array of colors.
These first three pics are to try and navigate you around
the points of this crystal.
First pic, from top point down.

Same angle, only the mid-section of crystal is in better
focus.

And here's a shot up from the bottom of the row of points.

All right, Now it's play time. Smiley

Here are three shots of the top point trying to get pics
of the "Golden" Rutile and playing with the light some.

And here are three shots of another area I was playing with.

Thanks for looking.
Let me know if you enjoyed looking at these pics or not. Smiley

Well, I've been at it again. Roll Eyes Found lots of real pretty golden
rutile in that Raleigh pocket a few weeks ago and I had to
try a few pics of this one nice patch.
The first pic is of the whole patch. It's about 1/2 inch across
at the top and about 5/8 inch long, but you can see the
rutile continues down the right side of the quartz.
The second pic is an
upside down version of the first. The last 4 pics are from
about the same angle with different lighting.
Hope you enjoy looking at them.

Thats a nice little patch.  I like how you used the diff. lighting.  the consistant angles are sweet on that piece.

Well, yeah. Smiley
I really enjoyed taking that last group of pics. I need to go
back and delete most of those from the first group.
AND WHEN were you making fun of my Dino-Lite?!! Grin

Wow! last post to this thread back in Feb. 2011.  I'm waving the necromancer wand on this thread.

This one is from The Oaks subdivision.

The Oaks have been nice to you, Scott.

Great photo and Rutile specimen.  How large is the twinned crystal?

The entire rutile cluster is probably no larger than 2 millimeters in length.  Tiny.

Beautiful specimens guys.  Thanks for sharing.  Makes me wish we had spent a little time scraping for some at Graves Mtn.  I love blue but the red minerals sure are lovely too.  Speaking of red I've been doing a bit of Chattahoochee river sifting lately and am finding lots of bits of what I think are garnet.  Must be quite a bit of it in the North GA mountains.  Smiley
