And this last one I was having some fun with so the first pic
is pretty much straight on and the others are just another look at it. Wink
Please try and note the "ghostly" golden cubic structures
embedded in this inclusion.

I often recollect some words said by an old friend a long time ago.

"There's only one thing
  you can do
when you got
  the blues
and you can't
  get rid of 'em.
That's grin
and dip in for more."

And so it is with the Bowling Green Blues. Smiley

Saturday, late morning, I was kindof heading north toward Henderson
and the artifact show, but I hadn't been out on that side of town in a while
so I thought I would swing by ol'Bowling Green for a quick spot check.
(And that pot of coffee I drank before leaving the house had me thinking about a porta-potty.)
Needless to say I was pretty shocked when I saw that the whole top of the hill
had been shaved off. Shocked
We have only been waiting for them to do that for about 5 years now!

I only had my travel pack of hand tools with me, but that didn't matter.
There was so much to look at I could barely slow down long enough to really look at anything!
I finally resigned myself to not being able to get a good look at All of it, and settled down
in what looked like the best spot. There were small crystals, some amethyst, in the debris from the wall.

There were many layers of "pocket clay" running horizontally
in the profile, with nothing in them.
The crystallization, mostly drusy plates, were in a clay filled vein running vertical to
and cross-cutting the horizontal layering.
After moving quite a bit of rock following meager signs of drusy
I finally see a few faces poking out at me.
They are in the vug right above the handle top.
The handle is also 'almost' in line with the vein I'm following.

So there's a couple nice faces poking out there and
I don't have many tool choices to work with.

Yep, those blue digging sticks work just fine as rock chisels, too. Wink

Here are a few pics of the process,
just to show we end up pretty much right where we started,
between a rock and a hard place. Smiley

Details of how I finally managed to extract, (both pieces),
of this stubborn jewel from it's ancient habitat are too grisly,
not to mention embarrassing, to bother sharing here.
So without further adoo, here's a picture of "Baby". Cheesy

Also in this pic you can see the orange clay mud coated
crystal drusy lining the inside of the cavity.

That was a whole lot of work for, basically, a pretty strange looking piece.
It does have some amethyst to it, tho.

Now that we have our foot in the door, so to speak,
let's just see what this is stuck in the mud above Baby?

Here's one piece I took home.  After this mud caked miniature druzy plate was cleaned I was surprised by this scepter.

Scepter dimensions:

1.5 x .8 cm or
1/2 x 1/4 in.

Great pics, Scott!
That first pic of Mark's amethyst is awesome! Wink

Thanks for the great pics of the little scepter and good eye for spotting it.
Even tho we see the "tendency" toward scepter growth at BG
I would say actual examples are still fairly rare.
And do I see the slightest hint of purple in that point?
I need to look at some of my older pieces again for scepters.
