I've got to hand it to you (no pun intended)

Could anyone recommend a good spot for digging that I could take my two boys to? They are 6 & 4. I normally take them to creeks in Randolph and Montgomery County but I'd like to get them out digging for some crystals.
Thanks
Stu

Fire,

That's a cool crystal. I saw a batch of crystals that a fellow had one time from Montgomery County that had black/blue chlorite in it so thick that it made the crystals themselves look blue under certain lighting conditions. I'd imagine that chlorite, ilmenite, or hematite could all create a bluish tint if they were concentrated enough and those minerals certainly would be a more common inclusion for Randolph County. Sometimes tourmaline as an inclusion will return a blue hue in quartz but that doesn't fit the geology for Randolph County. Have you been able to tell what the inclusion mineral is in your crystal? Great find whatever it is and thanks for showing it. Very unique piece you got there.
Best of luck - Mike

Great looking phantoms in that crystal, Fire. Cool find.
Of course we'll have to slice it down the middle to be sure Wink
but I'm leaning more toward the specular/ilmenite mixture.

That's really nice. Was that something exposed or did you have to do some digging to locate it?
