Look at these interesting impressions left on the surface by either the same mineral included or something else?

Great pics, Scott.
I was wondering how you could tell it was magnetite
and then I scrolled down to the second pic.
The "circles" in the first shots are pretty interesting, too!

Great pictures.  Are you using just a camera or microscope? Smiley

John, it's just a camera.  Although the image is focus stacked with about four different depth of fields.

That spot sure was a surprise for us.
We watched it carefully for a couple months as they cleared and graded it down,
and we were seeing great surface finds of crystal faces and broken crystals.
But when they finally started to dig down there was nothing in the veins but
ugly quartz. Angry
The beautiful pieces we were seeing on the surface had to come from someplace nearby. Undecided
Development proceeded and after a few good looks at it
we had pretty much given up on the spot,
but along comes 6 inches of rain and I decided to give it one last peek
last Sunday and see what might have been washed off.

I don't know how this thing made it "Un-Broken!!!" to where I happened to find it laying,
but here are a few pics of a beautiful Wake County Smoky Tessin.

When I saw it I knelt down and took a pic with my phone,
and then one of what the construction site looked like behind me.
It's just unbelievable this thing is practically undamaged!
The last pic gives you some scale.

Here's the final side with the mica deformation and a close-up.
And the last pic is of the bottom. The white "scraped" area
at the top of this pic is the only sign of damage I can see on the crystal.

That's beautiful, nice find!
I love that first photo of the crystal just lying there on top of the mud.  Awesome.

Thanks y'all. It made my day. Smiley

Tim, the stand is an aluminum pencil used for marking out your
cabochon form on slabs. It was handy and easy to bend. Wink

sung to the tune of 'Green Acres'
Erosion is the thing for me
I just don't like to dig - you see
Picking rocks up right off the ground
is good enough for this lucky old rockhound
