Fourth pic down, far left: petrified wood?  Sure looks like it came off a cord of firewood.

Is some of this stream tumbled quartz points?  I think I'm seeing some shapes.  Also like the cream colored rock with the gray-green veining. And amother piece showing a yellow gemmy end?

Hi,

Thanks Scott.

Yep, Tim4D, I do have about 20 pieces of stream tumbled quartz on the table.  I've been thinking that yellow stuff was from the clay, so I've cleaned and cleaned those yellowish stones and what yellow is left is real something or the other.

I don't know it's petrified wood or not.  Is there a test or easy way to tell other than looking at it and saying it looks like wood but is hard as a rock?  Scoitt - maybe we need a separate section for petrified wood pics. Smiley

I did sneak in a real gem in the pics in addition to the Amethyst - hopefully I'll have more info to share about it by the end of summer.

cheers,
r

Hi,

Experimenting with my camera...pics look fine on my PC - then get huge and turns fuzzy when I load them... Maybe this will be better.

Joe found this in Mine Creek and left it with me to add to my PopPop Point collection.

I think he said it was Kyanite?  If so, it's some powerful rock per this link:

cheers,

Needed to take a break from housework the other day so
I decided to go bust on some of the quartz boulders that
they were unearthing at a site right up the street.
There were vugs with crystals visible on the outside of the boulders
but most of them were attached to the walls of the vug and
could not be removed without damage.
So I thought by busting the whole boulder maybe a few whole crystals would shake out.
Well, that didn't happen so much, but I did come across this
vug with quartz drusy epimorphs of some mineral no longer present.
