Just found these photos I had taken several years ago of rubies from the Bayleaf area in Wake County.  Specimens have been sold, but these pics should be on record.  The largest one in this pic is about 1/2 inch long.

Hi,

Most of this is way over my head, but I still spent a good 2-3 hours browsing this interesting edition - it's all about my part of NC Wake County: Raleigh-Falls Lake- Bayleaf (where the rubies Laurie pictured above come from)-and Wake Forest.  The third article is about my main rock hunting ground - the Raleigh graphite region.

Joe - note Dr Stoddard authored some of the articles and editor of this edition. And no-I still haven't heard back from him  Cry

Now I know a bit more about why Mine Creek is so productive plus why the graphite pieces I find are so solid - it's the crystalline form of graphite and up to 40% pure. Shocked

and I look forward to it.

I thought the drusy "worm" in this vug I found off Purnell Rd.

Thanks Dan - I've read and re-read that edition about 5 times now and each time it seems to make more sense - it's a lot of info to digest...and I am slow since this is all pretty new stuff to me.  I'm sure I'll read it 10 more times or even more.  It's a good reference to my area.

Great Scott, Scott! It is so nice to finally see what these guys look like!
And that's a really good look! Great shots. I know how small that stuff is.
They all seem to have the "table-top" terminations and it's very nice
to see the partially filled negative spaces.
Wake County is lookin' pretty darn good! Wink
