This quartz came from a location shown to me by a great rock hound Bob Crocker.  There was a lot cleared on Six Forks Rd. in which some very interesting quartz was found.  Now, there is a parking deck in the way of retrieving more of these.

Here are two specimens in which rock crystal grew from segregation quartz that had come in contact with an alpine-type fissure.

These are specimens from Wake Forest.  The Bowling Green subdivision was once our own little private Diamond Hill but only while it was in development.  Houses and pavement now cover what was once our treasure chest of amethyst, smoky, and rock crystal quartz.

The first two pictures are of the same specimen.  The third is a surface find (hence the damage) with slight phantoms of smoky.  The last picture is a rock crystal cluster with a milky base.

Cleaning out the files and I don't see this pic any where
on the board. I've posted it before but obviously not here.
And it's a must.....This little 2 inch double terminated
champagne colored crystal was a surface find and the first
found crystal to alert us to the possibilities of the Oaks.

Here are three specimens I found in a water drainage/stream.  Although we refer to it as a creek sometimes, it has far too little water flowing in it to be a creek.  When it rains big this little stream becomes a raging stream as evident from noticing how the sediment and rocks shift from one side to the other after such torrents.  Tourmaline var. Schorl is found in the quartz here, as well as clear to smoky tessin habit quartz crystals.  Most of the finds here have been in the stream as opposed to being dug in situ.

The first two pictures are of a cluster of Tessin habit crystals I found in the stream. Damaged from being tumbled in the stream among other rocks, it is in remarkably great condition for a stream find. The largest crystals on the specimen are ~ 5 cm or 2 in. long.

The last three pictures are of the schorl in quartz found here.  I dug those in situ.

My best dolomite specimen from Silver Lake.  It's almost as if it has not completely turned into goethite yet.  Its iridescent luster outshines all my other specimens from this location.  Rutile is also on this specimen.
