By the way, for those that didn't notice, Josh's #4 picture above is a scepter. I was there when he found it. This is certainly a rarity for Chatham Co. and in fact the only scepter I've ever seen from there.   Cheesy

Nice finds Jgards,
I was wondering if it was scepter.  That is rare, I've never seen one from Coopers before.  Now the questions is...who dumped it there?   Grin

Three of my favorites from the original Cooper's Ridge find, summer 2009. The last one was found the second day we knew the deposit existed and found maybe 6-8" below the surface. The start of "the big hole"

Hard to believe that was almost 8 years ago...For reference, in the pic below taken 8/15/2009, we were roughly 1.5 months into digging. You see the dug out ledge Scott has crystals in, just about that is another dugout area, and the last cluster in the above pics (and others) came from that general area.

You guys found some *sweet* quartz there, as you already know, of course.  Anyone been out there recently?  Last time I was in the area, I had a peek and there were apartment on one side of the road, but still open field on the other.

We've been keeping tabs on the place and it's still the same as what you described.  Maybe one day we'll find the next epic pocket!   Cheesy

Good things come in small packages. Smiley
Here are a few different angles of a beauty of a little phantom cluster I was taking pictures of recently.

It's that time of year where reminiscing flows like mayonnaise. It's good with some things and others not so much. But this one was a good one. This crystal was found in two parts around 3 or more feet apart from each other. I remember Mark and I being astonished at how it traveled so far apart. The most likely scenario is that gravity simply pulled one half of the crystal further down into the pocket some thousands of years ago.  But it serves as a good reminder to save all the pieces from a pocket for the purpose of finding how the "puzzle pieces" fit back together. And in some cases you may find that a simple repair could turn a worthless specimen into a potentially valuable specimen.

This reminds me of something that I witnessed some 40 years ago at a meeting of the Archaeological Society of North Carolina held at Davidson County Community College, when an local amateur collector had found a 5 inch aboriginal corncob impressed pottery shard in a field near his house, and over a year later found a similar shard in a field some 1/4 mile away, and they fit perfectly together.  Pretty cool stuff!

Those are all beautiful specimens! I had no idea you were getting any of that size with the inclusions.
I especially like the story of the broken parts of the crystal and the story of the pottery shards being found and fitting together.
I have found broken artifacts on the surface but the parts adjacent.
