And here are some pics I took of another fine specimen from
Mr. Rutile himself, John Frazier. Smiley
The specimen is also from Hiddenite, The Adams Mine.

Hiddenite, NC

Crystallized smoky quartz found in the saprolitic pegmatite that surrounds the Buffaloe Vein.

Here's another partial crystal from the Buffaloe Vein pegmatite.  It looks as if it were eaten by a solution that became too acidic.  Perhaps heat was also a factor.

Great photo, Scott.  I love the mica crystal near the top.

Specimen owned and photographed by John Frazier.

He explained, "This cluster is 5" by 3" from the Adams Mine at Hiddenite and came out
                    about twenty years ago."

I found this small tessin habit crystal surface hunting at the top of the N.A.E.M. mine.

Nice tessin, but that one of John Frazier's is AWESOME!!! I thought I had a mud-included one from there, but apparently I never got around to section of the collection. Got stuck on wanting all tessins! Argh!

Here is a piece of reticulated rutile on twin dolomite cubes, the cubes are covered by a thin calcite druzy on one side that fluoresces orange under a standard black light.

Imagine the fate of that piece had you not decided to bust it open.  That emerald may have remained hidden and or lost forever.  Good job on that one.  I wonder how many others are hidden like that in all the material people took home.
