This is a pic of some slices of the Farmville, NC meteorite.  These are from a trade another collector made with the Smithsonian. Smiley

Ah didn't know one could trade with the Smithsonian.  I'm not familiar with the Farmville meteorite.  Is there some literature on it out there?

Yes, it is included in the list of NC meteorites if you do a search on the internet. We have #2 and the one below it in the  collection.

Pitt Co., an H4  It is a fall vs. a find in that it was seen to fall. December 4, 1934.  Total known weight of 56kilos in two meteorites.

The Smithsonian will trade if you have something they want. It helps if they have more of something than they can ever use.  I am sure in this case that they got some really rare meteorites in this trade.  The person involved collects rare and historical meteorites. Cheesy

Thanks John, I have always loved meteorites. -  especially the ones with the Widmanstätten patterns or olivine crystals but have never been able to afford one.  Having a piece of an NC meteorite is great!  Thanks for the info and picture.
