John collected these and many more during the late 80's to 90's from Blowing Rock, NC.  Notice the smoky phantoms in the first picture 3.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm.  The second is a very nice cluster of transitional habit crystals (transitioning between normal and tessin habit).  The largest crystal in the cluster is 3 cm long.

I've heard many stories about a couple spots out toward blowing rock. the most common one cropping up is being able to mine pyrite cubes right off 321 (coming from boone) where they have done some blasting right on the side of the road

Do you know anything about the kyanite on bamboo drive anthony?  I spent a few years in boone and still go up a bit to see friends.

there's kyanite in howard's creek but i couldnt find much of it, and what i did find was very poor grade. One of these days i'll get around to taking photos of some quartz crystals i scored out of a road bank that eroded during the 2004 hurricanes. It was up near grandfather. There certainly is alot of potential for quartz crystals all over the flanks of grandfather and across the valley towards Banner Elk.

I just acquired a large batch of quartz crystals, most with inclusions from the same site that John Frazier collected his.  I am referring to it as the Condominium Prospect.  Here's an example of the awesome zoned inclusions found in some of them.

Here's a neat specimen I recently collected at Little Chestnut Creek in Watauga County.  Almandine garnets with magnetite octahedrons in sericite/chlorite schist.  4 x 2.5 inches.

Laurie, I hope you are going to be bringing some of these
crystals with you to the Greensboro show this Saturday.
I would very much like to take a look at them and take a few off your hands!
I am assuming you are going to be set up at the show?

Before the show I was hoping to aquire a good quartz crystal specimen
from "each" of the several interesting NC localities Laurie had to offer.
But once looking at the collection I decided it would be
enough of an accomplishment if I could make up my mind about just one of the sites.
I chose the included crystals from the Blowing Rock "Condo Site".
I didn't get the biggest ones by any means, but am very happy with my selection
and the great deal, as always, from Laurie. Smiley
Thank you, laurie. It was good to see you and I hope to take
a couple more of those crystals off your hands one of these days.

Three angles of crystal numero uno.
