The epidote is from the old classic locality: the Clarence Wilson Farm near Bakersville.

Hey Laurie:

Send me an email.  I may be interested in this epidote specimen.  Epidote crystals (with albite crystals) from Clarence Wilson Farm are some of the best ever found in NC.

I have a couple of specimens from this locality and always look for more.  One of the best I ever had I traded to a friend in Spruce Pine in the mid 1960s.
I wish I had it today......several crystals to nearly 3 inches long.

Here are photos of emeralds and an aquamarine specimen from Mitchell Co. (Ex. Lee Roy Franklin collection).  The emeralds are probably from the Big Crabtree Emerald Mine.  Photos courtesy of the History Museum of Burke Co.

Is it wrong to be suspicious of the Aqua label? Possibly Apatite? Looks an awful like Sinkhole Mine material, which as we all know is on the Toe, although the Toe runs through many many miles of pegmatite, so aqua could be correct.

The lighting in the room it was displayed in was not the best in the world for showing true coloration.  I would call it green beryl, too, as Laurie said.  As far as the locality, the only beryl producing mine I remember being adjacent to the North Toe River was the Deer Park Mine.  Several other mines were not too far from the Toe.

Until I talk to Mr. Franklin, the actual locality is not known, or whether he personally collected it or not.  I'll post any new info here after I contact him.
