Brookite

We've been talking a lot about Anatase and Rutile of late
so it's about time we had a thread for the "other"
titanium dioxide.
Brookite has so far, for the most part, eluded us here in NC.
We have been looking for it, but no worthy specimens yet.

So it was very nice for OHIOXtldiggerJohn to send me this
fine specimen of Coontail Quartz, coated in part with a grey
crustal mineral yet to be identified, and COVERED with
Brookite!, from the well known US locality Magnet Cove, Arkansas.
I have seen many pics of this material but it looks far
better in hand.
Beautiful Specimen! Thanks, John. Smiley

The first two pics are of the whole specimen and then
several close-ups of the Brookite which range in size from
2 - 6 mm.

Very cool. How weird! I just got a piece from Dave Swearengen too. I just got it to round out my titanium section.  Shocked Suddenly, I am starting to have a real collection! Partly thanks to John Makahon (xtldigger) as well.

Nice pics Joe.  Can't wait till we can find all three polymorphs here in NC.  We may already have some in our collection but just not know it!  Until construction picks back up we may not have much luck.   Wink

You usually see Brookite on the quartz, so I couldn't resist
when I saw Gary had these for sale.
Thanks Gary! Wink
