Hey everyone, I am looking for suggestions on what i should take to Reel with me.  I know the obvious, first aid, but what else does everyone suggest bringing for an enjoyable experience?

Anything that will bust through really hard ground - the rock is even harder there...big pry bars, big shovels, hammers and chisels. The umbrella is a great idea, there never ever seems to be a breeze down in that depression.

Yep, when we go to the Reel, we usually plan on staying a
few days. So when you go it's better to have everything you
think you "might" need. If you have any questions about
bringing something, bring it. Digging 6 foot holes is the bare
minimum. You want to set your sights on about 16 feet.
I have brought the wheelbarrel and a fold up 8 ft ladder before.

You guys bring the shade, I'll bring the firewood incase it
ain't hot enough. Cheesy

16 feet will get you deeper then anyone has ever dug at the reel..When you get to the top of the hill over looking the mine,to the left toward the creek go and look over the slope,You will see what looks like an old hole that is rather square with small trees growing out of it..That is where the best stuff from the reel came from.To the far right,in front of the linkbelt bucket dig into the wall, there you will find the (stacked clusters),not the blooms you will find in the middle. Also on the far right wall i dug a fist size scepter in hydro that Hiddenite now owns.. Shocked

At least 2 or 3 five gallon buckets -- One will be useful to aid in scooping and collecting the dirt to lift out of the hole you dig, the others for specimens, and or carrying supplies.

Rock picks -- for starting cracks to pry large masses of rock apart, or for simply splitting smaller rocks apart.

5 pound rock hammer or sledge --  to use on those rock picks.

Mattock -- all purpose tool, very useful for digging into any matrix that is too sturdy for shovels.

Shovel(s) -- for tossing all the dirt out of the hole you make.

Potatoe hoe or rake -- this is useful only if you prefer to search tailing piles (already dug dirt piles) for loose undiscovered crystals.

Strong back -- without which you may find it a little difficult after the first hour.   Wink

You don't have to take all these with you, but these are the basic tools one might be prepared with on a visit to most any mine.  They will all work very well at the Reel.

"blooms"....i like that! that is a pretty apt description.

Reelminer, when was the last time you were at the reel? Just curious, why is your name reelminer? I have always wondered if you went there a bunch.
