New one from Raleigh nc

Hey new here wanted to join some forums with some local people to go digging with in the triangle. Been a huge rock and gem guy for years. I have been going to local creeks finding crystals and banded agates. Always wanted to go to one of these alpine fissures I see people finding on construction sites. Most of what I find is stream tumbled crystals. If anyone wouldnt mind an open mind to tag along for an adventure let me know. Was thinking of finally joining the tarheel club since I have been talking about it for 10 years now. Well look forward to meeting new people and exploring new places with people as well as pictures of finds

Welcome Aboard, David Smiley
Glad you found us!
We don't aim for non-stop daily dialogue here, but if you have
something you'd like to document or just share we're here.
The Alpine fissures aren't as easy to find now as they were
a few years ago when construction was still booming. There
was a time when we couldn't check all the Wake Co sites in
one day. Now, it would be hard to show you one.
But we're always looking and waiting for something to pop!

The TarHeel Club goes on quite a few fieldtrips, mostly to
operating quarries that you couldn't otherwise access,
each year. Some have good material and some don't, but
I'd say it's worth the $20 a year to join. It's always
interesting to get a good look at the geology of areas even
if there isn't anything there you want to collect.

Hope to bump into you soon,
Joe

Count me in, i am new like yourself and digging alone is not the most exciting or productive method.  I struck out at hiddenite yesterday but still had a pretty good time.

Welcome David.  Joining the Tarheel club is one of the best ways to get started.  Meeting other rockhounds, and going on the field trips is the way to go.

@Raleigh Rockhound -- I look forward to your NAEM report.  I've yet to have great luck there, but I know its there as I see everyone else but me finding great stuff!!   Tongue
