For Lee County let  me mention the Clegg copper mine, I found a lot of nice specimens there like azurite crystal, malachite, dioptase, libethenite, bornite, quartz xls, and many copper ores, still a good place to go to collect and spend the day there, many of the shafts have been filled, and few dumps left to look in. Yes sir, BW, thanks for the info.
I have never been to the Clegg and was just talking about it with someone today.
He had a nice piece of ore he had picked up down there.
I know the place is on its last legs but I would still like to get down there
and find a piece of the libethenite for the collection.
Didn't know there was dioptase there too.

Calcite from Lee County, NC.

Going to have to try a different lighting technique on this one -- too washed out.  Perhaps I'll try back lighting it.

Second try with a slightly different angle.  The halos in the picture (floating aura around some of the edges)  are an artifact of the focus stacking software that I use -- normally I would edit those out.

Well white light seems to be a little difficult for me in photographing the calcite, so I'll try a short wave lamp.
