I just can't wait for Scott to post the fieldtrip report for
last weekend to Glendon and Burgin. It was a good weekend
and I can't wait to see some of the pictures Scott comes
up with of his Glendon fluorite finds.

So, I'm jumping the gun with a few pics of this little vug we found.

We may have to call in a CSI to help examine and explain
all the splatter.

Looks like you were bleeding on the Fluorite.  Very interesting!  Has anyone put it under a microscope?  Will look forward to the other pics. This week I am going to Boston for a week to see the grandkids.  Hope to take in some museums.  Would love to see the mineral collection at Harvard. Cheesy Will let you know what I get to see. Cool

Could the red be HgS? Basically Cinnabar?

Good question, Gramps. Wink
I've been looking at that possibility especially with the vug pics
on the end of the fieldtrip report. Both Cinnabar and Realgar
form in hydro thermal veins commonly associated with
hot spring environments, which would fit the Glendon locale.
But I have found no association with fluorite. Undecided
Quartz, calcite, and barite, yes.
So far, everything comes back to Hematite as best guess,
but I am still looking at other possibilities. Especially with
the possibility of the bright red translucent crystals in the
last two pics of the fieldtrip report being Realgar or Cinnabar?
I don't know if either has ever been reported from Glendon?

Joe
