This came from a condo construction site off Lee Highway in Fairfax County, coordinates 38.851005,-77.34551 and was collected in 2002.  I picked up a bunch of float quartz kicked up by the earthmovers for use in yardscaping the house I had then in central Fairfax County.  I saw the gleam when I was scrubbing the clay off.  Needless to say from that point on I took my time cleaning this particular rock.  A few years later my wife Rebecca found a similar specimen of gold on quartz while digging a terrace in our back yard.  I always say, start your collecting in your own "back yard".
