Morefield Mine status update

Sam and Sharon Dunaway have been looking for a buyer for a number of years. Looks like they are taking a sabattical. This message is posted on their web site:

The mine will be temorarily closed for spring and summer and fall of 2013. The mine will be under a State Division of Mining approved category of Temporary Cessation. The mine is not being reclaimed nor permanently closed. There is much more development potential for the mine and plenty of excellent pegmatite yet to be mined.

The website will be maintained to keep Friends of the Morefield Mine informed and updated on future developments

If I had the money ... But I'd have to hire a mining engineer to keep up the work. Will be interesting to see what develops.

Here is a story from 2008. At about that time, lacking a buyer, the Dunaways decided to keep operating on a bit more limited schedule.  Now they seem to have done the paperwork to keep the mine in mothballs so to speak, ready for the next miner.

Thanks for the update there, Tim.
Be interesting to see who ends up minding the mine next.

This is what the website currently says. I'm hoping they will be open in the fall. Haven't been there in a few years.

Statement for customers

The mine will be temporarily closed.
We will be closed at the mine this spring and summer (2014).
Check this fall for up-date.
We have a Forester working at the mine for logging and reforestation.
Trees have been falling down everywhere because of dying, so it would not be safe to be open this spring or summer.

The website will be maintained to keep Friends of the Morefield Mine informed and updated on future
developments
