So I heard some people talking about creek crawling. Never heard of such a thing, but I figured id try my hand at this sport. I heard a story about a creek that folks can find crystals in, so like any rockhound I had to find this creek. Talking to a few of the right folks I found this creek along with its gift for me to find  Smiley !!!

Nice,,when I was in Colorado and at Pikes peak at the very top of the mountain on the left side their was a creek that ran down the entire mountain ,so because I knew that over time with freezing and thawing and with heavey rains the crystals would get washed out from their pockets and find their way down to the creek,,so  I walked that creek for a couple hunded feet and found really nice smoky quartz points along with other interesting stuff along the way. The only downside of being that high up in the mountains is running out of oxygen,,walked for maybe 300 feet and just about died.

A very nice crystal with transitional habit -- a cross between tessin and normal habit.  If you look at your crystal at the point where it juts inward like a pagoda and then imagine hundreds of these "steps" happening at a much smaller scale, then you have a tessin.   Grin

Ol'Pahound has been crawling this creek and finding
everything from chlorite included quartz to morels lately,
So John and I decided we'd better go take a look for ourselves. Smiley
Neither one of us had walked this section of House Creek in years,
but it's full of agate so it wasn't hard to talk John into it.
John couldn't care much less about the prospect of finding a quartz crystal
but he'll walk all day for that agate. Smiley

One of the other interesting things Pahound has found in the creek of late is a tooth.
I guessed it was probably a cow or horse but he looked it up
and discovered it was probably a bison.
Well, I haven't seen one of them around here in a looooong time.
Then he finds a pelvis and another bone in the same area and we came across those.
Below are a couple pics of the bones with Side A and B of the one on the left. The one on right is the pelvis.
And if you go to this site on Bison Osteology,
http://lamar.colostate.edu/~lctodd/bison.htm

and look at the pelvis area of the skeleton shown,
you will see that it looks like these two bones belong together
and at one time were attached.

I thought it was pretty funny too, Gramps. Smiley
Seeing as how these trees are behind the Art Museum,
I think they call it "art"? Huh Wink

Didn't have time to do much but take another walk in the creek this weekend.
It was a beautiful Sunday morning.
Besides for the crystals and agate, now we've got bones to look for!

Here's a pic of John explaining to Ryan the difference between
agate, jasper, and chert.

We think the bison bones have come to rest against a natural d**e crossing the creek.
How old these bones are and whether they are all bison is yet to be seen.
There are a lot of possibilities at this point and it is fun to consider and investigate all of them.
Below are some pics of the jaw bone and some of the bones we found today.

And caught these pics of a young hawk on the way back to the car.

I'm glad to see you guys checking those creeks.  I haven't had the chance to get out since all my possessions are locked away in pods right now.  Living at the mother-in-laws right now.  Hopefully, I'll be able to move in at the end of the week.  I'm starting to get rockhounding withdrawal pains at this point.   Tongue
