Hi,

Grew up on the Texas gulf coast, graduated from Texas State, taught school for a few years then worked in the golden gulf coast oil and chemical industries til 1989 when I moved to Raleigh to work providing computing support for research and development scientist in the  pharmaceutical industry.  Was always way too busy to stop and smell the rocks during my 37 years of work!work!work, but am retired now and eager to learn more about the physical sciences, mining and anything rocks.

There's creeks running everywhere in my neck of the woods - I even have one running through my back yard - so I've been doing creek crawling before I even knew there was a name for it.  It would take me years just to walk the creeks in this area alone...and I'm eager to give it a try.  Why? Because I don't know much about it but do find it fascinating what all you can learn from a rock - fun stuff.

Cheers,
L82Play

Erosion is the thing for me
I just don't like to dig - you see
Picking rocks up right off the ground
is good enough for this lucky old rockhound

Well it's never 2 L82Play and you're on the right track with being fascinated by what you can learn from a rock.  It wasn't until I took a few advanced geology classes in college that I realized how this knowledge was a catalyst for an even more profound fascination with rocks.  Because now, with this education, we don't just see ugly rocks anymore -- we see their history, their names, their ages, and their personalities.  We see that they have traveled, sometimes a long harsh life, others, just born.  They are unique and have their own chemical signatures, but most of all they have an intrinsic beauty.  So the more you learn, the more your fascination will grow, and the heavier your house will become!   Grin

Welcome to RHL L82Play.  I hope to start seeing your creek finds soon.   Wink
