Black Limestone and Calcite

So Raleigh Rockhound went to the Jan 12 MAGMA trip to the
Barger Quarry near Lexington, Virginia and brought this
pretty piece of black limestone matrix with veins of white calcite running thru it
and wanted it cut so it would display better.
I love the contrast between the black and white and cut a few
slabs to try cabbing some of it.

When the slabs were still wet with oil from the saw they looked great.
As they dry out they are starting to craze and crack a bit so I'm not sure
how the material is going to hold together. But I'll definitely give it a try.
As you can see from the last pic below, motivation for cabbing has been a little slow lately. Wink

I had some similar marble from Herkimer, NY cut and the results were very good.  I'll look forward to seeing how this goes whenever things decide to thaw out around here.
