Well there's no doubt you've got good taste in rocks.  That Dryhead agate is some really gorgeous stuff.  Do you also make cabochons with your material?

Thanks Scott! I cab quite a bit of material, although at this time, my genie is super old and so I typically only make cabs of easier to cut material. Agates are just too big of a pain with my current set up since they're so hard. I've got some 8" STAR wheels that I need to get up and running, and am still saving up for a nice flat lap set up and a sphere maker, too.

Here's a cab I did last summer...Biggest piece of larimar I've ever cut and polished. Was just over 3" long, which for a cab, is pretty big!! It sold right after it was wire wrapped!

Here's a funky little thing I cut last week. It's from material that I collected from Green Lake, WI. It's an iron stained drusy quartz we've slanged "Strawberry Quartz". This piece featured veins of the iron stained quartz running through a white/cream colored churt that is very common in that part of the state. I thought the outcome was pretty cool! Was just one of those "Let's grind this for awhile and see how it looks" type moments that worked out great!

Dome-polished these Moroccan Berber Agates last week. Love the reds and oranges in these.

My current Rhodochrosite display...Have to work on getting a better group shot. I find its easier to shoot one piece than many and always have a hard time with this! Any tips on "group shots" ?

OK, consider my mind completely blown away! Shocked
The Green Lake cab came out very well!
And you don't see the nice Moroccan agate everyday.
But the Rhodochrosite Collection display is just awesome!
Thank you for sharing it with us. It looks great just like it is! Cheesy
Now I see why you were willing to part with the one stalactite piece.

As far as being any help to you with a group shot, I think
it would be best if you just packed it all up and shipped it to us.
We are going to have to play with different lighting and angles and such. Roll Eyes

hahaha well OK then, Joe! I'll start boxing it up now!  Grin

Glad you enjoyed, my rhodo and my dryheads are my prized possessions, and also my retirement plan! some people invest in themselves with virtual dollars into virtual companies, i prefer to buy precious metals and nice rock/mineral specimens! although i would sell all my gold and silver 10 fold before i'd sell my rocks! Oh, and you can only sorta see it on the right hand side of the picture...But that's a California Rhodonite sphere, and a big Nailhead Calcite from Oklahoma.

As I said before your great taste in rocks is evident!  That collection of rhodochrosite is out of this world.  As Joe said your group shot looks great.  If you wanted to try for something better I would suggest focus stacking software.  One of the most difficult things with group shots is to get everything in focus at the same time.  Focus stacking allows you to do just that.  Of course it's my opinion that focus stacking makes all specimen(s) photo's better.  But then you'll have to consider weather or not it's worth your time and investment -- photography is a hobby of mine allowing me the privilege of geeking out.   Grin

haha thanks for the reply, Scott! I definitely agree that getting everything in focus is the most difficult thing to do for group shots! I'm hopefully going to update my camera this year sometime, so that should help a bit too...I'm currently just using a 8 megapixel Canon Powershot Elph from 2003. lol...But to be fair, it was almost $300 back then! lol
