We are  trying to decide whether to go this year to the MAGMA Rockhound Roundup.  We attended the 2006 roundup, but none  since.  I'm sort of weighing:

Plus: Whether people I know and like to hang out with will be there.  Not that  I'm against making  new acquaintences.
Plus: If the Crabtree is still productive after the recent machine dig.
Plus: Bring the kayaks for the river next to campground.

Minus: Gosh, mid-July is awful hot for tent camping, even in the shade next to a river.
Minus: Cost of travel -- and lodging if we don't  tent camp.

Possible Trump: Just met a rockhound from Amelia County with local connections and knowledge.  If he lets me tag along prospecting, or join his current personal dig exploring for pegmatite near the Morefield  Mine, I may not get out of central Virginia, rockhound-wise, for a long time.  Gas  money can be spent renting a backhoe, after all!
