Montgomery Ward Rock Saw Rehab

Making progress on rehabilitating my estate-sale Montgomery Ward 10" rock saw. It had been put away wet and left to sit for years before I got it, so the tank was clogged with rusty rock muck. The top, held on by four machine screws, was stuck tight. Solvents soaking loosened only one screw. I was about ready to drill out the centers and extract the other three when I decided to try the power washer and alternating scrubs/rinsed with vinegar and then borax, hoping to clean out the minuscule gaps in the screw seat. Then I soaked overnight, once more, in Marvel Mystery Oil. It worked!  Saturday, with careful pressure and torque on the flat-head slots, I finally coaxed the three screws loose. This evening I scraped and dumped the tank gunk, then power-washed all the insides. Tomorrow after work I aim to scrub and sand some more with borax, which seems to remove a good bit of rust without etching metal like acid treatment would. I also need to cut a new gasket and reassemble the vise carriage and guide bar.  The bearing seems smooth and tight, so I hope the power washing didn't force water into the bearing.

I think I will skip the "full restoration" and opt for keeping the original patina coated with light oil and use cutting oil or a borax solution in water to keep the tank insides in check.

Got the motor rewired, saw and motor laid out on a table, and got the  saw running today. First cuts on a piece of unakite.
