Free RHL T-Shirt and specimen Prize drawing

All you need to do is reply to this thread with an opinion, or suggestion of how RHL can be better.  What would you like to see more or less of?  Perhaps there's something in the shop you would like to see, but is currently not there.  Even if you only have a negative opinion or criticism of something in RHL, you'll still get put in for a chance to win the drawing.

The drawing will take place at the end of August - 2014.

Here is the specimen I'll be giving away along with the RHL T-shirt as the prize for the winner of the drawing.  Read the beginning of thread to find out how to enter.

4.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm
This is front and back of the same specimen.

Nice list Scott, do you know where to get one of those soft plastic crystal extractors that Joe has?  I am in the process of making one from a golf course rope stake.  It looks to be the same softness of plastic, i'll just have to cut my own shape out of it.

Here is what I am working with below.  Does anyone make them on the board?

That plastic tool was given to us by a Floridian MAGMA digger named Ray.  He said they were made for boat siding.  So it's not something you may easily obtain.  But the picture you showed looked like a great idea.  Just shave it down to a point you'll be good to go.

Hey Scott, thanks for info.  Also, I thought of another one for the tool page.  http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Gear-26-310-681-Plastic-Shovel/dp/B006JA63EW  Plastic Shovel.

Is this a link that can not be pulled up on a mobile device. I don't see any equipment or am I just having a brain fart.......Ok i got on the laptop and it shows it all......I see the cold chisels  but I like the ones I have for work they have a 4-5 wide hard plastic guard molded to the chisel to protect you hands. What about adding ultrasonic cleaners heated or non for cleaning your specimens and I have a E-Tool fold up shovel Gerber makes one I think. I can put in my backpack for one less thing to carry. Also converts into a crude pick.....aka Foxholes LOL. just a few ideas and my wish list just got bigger looking at the shop Scott wife is really gonna love that.s

Hi,

This is great Scott!!!  It is great guidance and will save us newbies and junior members a ton of time.

And don't want to miss out on my chance for a RHL T-shirt!

I was going to submit gloves - but got beat to the punch on that one.

So I've been struggling (but a plus is I bought two things from the shop already) and finally came up with a suggestion based on topics on the forum board: metal detectors.  If that one isn't suitable, then how about a book of Morels - how to identify - pictures of good ones - etc...?

cheers,
r

PS-thanks for sharing your knowledge - this is MOST Excellent work!!!

is good enough for this lucky old rockhound

Great suggestions!

@Brian - I created a mobile compatible shop page so mobile users will be able to see everything.  I added Gerber folding shovel, and chisels with safety guards.

@L82Play -  I've added metal detectors and a books on Morels.

@Raleigh Rockhound and Timh -- I'll be putting T-shirts up for sale as soon as I take some pictures to post of them.

Thanks for all your help so far.   Smiley

How about a "Mineral of the Month" feature, where you name a mineral species for each month, then we all contribute photos of examples of that mineral that we have collected or acquired, and narrative descriptions of localities and collecting possibilities.  Could have links to informative web pages about that mineral.  The photos could afterward be added to the excellent data base of photos, especially from North Carolina localities, that you already have on this great rockhounding site.  If you do like the idea, please do not consider me for the drawing, I have enough rocks already!

For the tool page, I think these commercial tent stakes are what I saw others use for pounding and prying at Scufflin' Acres.  Think I may need to buy the 3/4" and one of the longer 1".
