Shrooms growing everywhere

Hi,

With the rain and mostly damp hot/cold/hot/cold weather we've been having in Raleigh, all sorts of mushrooms are growing everywhere - even on the dead tree I use as a bridge over the creek!

Weird!?!

cheers,

Erosion is the thing for me
I just don't like to dig - you see
Picking rocks up right off the ground
is good enough for this lucky old rockhound

Kayla and I were down in the Uwharries yesterday and the shrooms were amazing, never seen so many down there.  Unfortunatly most were inedible, but Kayla did find a patch of beautiful orange chantrells, but too small to pick and too pretty anyway.  We needed this weather in Morel season.

They were really pretty cinnabar chanterelles.
I found a neat looking mushroom while I was out prospecting today that I have never seen before. I looked like a white flower coming out of the ground. It reminded me of rose petals but I can't seem to find anything like it in my mushroom book or online.... unfortunately I didn't think to take a picture until after I had left

I'm going to take a guess and say it was the "Indian Pipe" plant you saw.  (Monotropa uniflora)  Grin

no it wasn't indian pipe. Indian pipe isn't a mushroom. It's just a wildflower that lacks chlorophyll. I know what that looks like.I have found that close to where I live. this was something different. big flower like petals, no long stem. If it's still around next time I go there I will take a picture

closest thing I can find is a cauliflower mushroom, but not exactly. Not as curly

I don't think so. Kinda similar. that's a cool looking one though
I'm gonna have to go back and see if I can find it again. It was growing on the ground not on a tree

My back yard was full of them even though the grass was cut less than 2 weeks ago.  There were literally hundreds from common toad stools to orange with red spots to red and yellow and "puff balls".  Wife spent yesterday afternoon pulling them up and throwing them away.  I though they added a bit of character to the yard, but what do I know.  Kiss
