Mine Creek combo Kyanite

Hi,

I found this in the creek a few weeks back and it has become my fav rock depicting what is out there as it's a combo of quartz, graphite, garnet and kyanite.

Thanks to Bob and his clear pics, I think this specimen belongs in this category.  The blue in the kyanite comes out more when the sun shines on it, but the pics here show it mostly as orange-brown - maybe it's like the orange kyanite from Tanzania  Cool

Enjoy my favorite rock.

Creek Crawlin' ROCKS!

cheers,

Very nice chunk of kyanite.  I never have found any worth talking about in Wake County.  Great pictures too.

Hey Dan - here's more Wake County Kyanite for you - it's of the bluer blade type - both brownish and bluish bladed rocks are scattered in the creek.  They aren't easy to spot until something comes along to crunch them and expose the blades to us amateurs. Tongue

cheers,

Some great looking stuff you found there.  Congrats.  I will have to hit mine creek, I hunted in a tributary of it but only found some black sand that I still need to double check.
