Need to start a thread for "Misc. Slabs"
like these here.
I don't know what it is or where it came from but I've seen
some similar stuff called a "banded serpentine".
I just love the yellow-greens.

So my combo unit came and I couldn't wait to slice up some of the Jasper I've picked from our local creek. One is a brecciated jasper/chalcedony - the other a banded jasper. Now to try preforming!

Very nice finds there. The first looks like a jello fruit cake or something. Can't wait to see what the finished product looks like.

Thanks Scott,
Yeah the chalcedony does look kind of like jello. There are a few tiny vugs here and there in the transparent sections, but I hope to pick out a few solid cabs. Just starting out, so trying to keep my expectations low
Going to test-polish tonight to see how it shines up.

Talusman, can you divert that creek in the direction of central Virginia?

Sure, you can have all the water. It will make it easier for me to pick up the rocks

Cut a super thin (2-3mm) slab of the brecciated stuff an polished (as best my poor skills allow). Front and backlit.

I like both materials but the breccia is pretty interesting!
Would like to see more of both as you get them worked down.
Good finds and thanks for the pics.

I've been busy crickin' and cuttin. Trying to get a little stockpile before the snow sets in. Here are a few of the more interesting pieces from last week's finds. Visible "cracks" are all filled with clear or red chalcedony (sawed surfaces are smooth). One of the materials has many invisible fractures that looks like it will limit cabs to 1-2". Other material is pretty solid.

Looks like you're building up a pretty good stash for the winter.
I swear I'd like a nice big piece of nothing but that
rootbeer chalcedony matrix cementing your breccia together to sink my teeth in!
That stuff is awesome looking.
The first pic in this batch is some dendritic jasper found in
several areas around the country. Makes some pretty cabs.
Thanks for the pics!
