I thought I'd post pics of a Haywood Co. specimen, since there hasn't been any recent additions for the county.

Below are some photos of a Pyromorphite specimen from the Redmond Mine (Redmond Lead prospect) that I acquired recently.  The specimen is just shy of 3" long and the Pyromorphite looks like a green fuzzy fungus.  The closeups reveal the fine crystallization of the specimen.

Enjoy,

Dennis

Thanks, Dennis! What a pretty colorful piece. I know it would've been hard to pass up.
Beautiful close-up pictures!

I was fortunate to add to my NC beryl collection recently and a new county, too.

This Haywood Co. beryl specimen was found at an unnamed mica prospect near the Jackson Co. line in the Balsam Mountains many years ago.  From my research this locality is only the second beryl record for Haywood Co.

The specimen is a combination of green and golden colored beryl and measures 3.4 x 3.2 in. with a nice  termination.  Below are some photos.

Dennis, nice and unusual piece for that area, being born in Haywood County spent time as a kid with Grandparents on Balsam Mountain who lived in last house on dead end road above Barbers Orchard just before Jackson County line, They were moonshiners.

Thanks, Buckshot.  Being a North Carolina beryl fanatic I was happy to get this crystal. The person I got it from originally received it from the mica miner that collected it.

I spent considerable time in the Great Balsams in Jackson and Haywood counties when I was a student at Western Carolina University (1967-1971).  My friends and I trout fished for native brookies in the headwater streams.  We found an old still in a hidden cove and took the copper tubing and chestnut barrels as souvenirs to decorate our dorm rooms. Fun times.

Great memories of younger days, the Blue Ridge Parkway bought their land in later years after we moved to McDowell and named an overlook for them it's called Rabb Overlook.
