The weather was bright sunny and cool -- perfect conditions for rockhounding.  I met Joe at a spot we've been checking for the past several weekends as they continue development.  I found Joe working on a couple fissures where mica and quartz glittered the surface where they were exposed.  The quartz there was incredibly high grade, glassy dark smoky variety with small sections of what appear to be facet grade material.  Unfortunately, even though all the signs where present, and conditions seemed conducive for beautiful crystals, only a couple crystal faces were found there.  Crystalline faces can be found throughout many of the quartz fissures on the property but terminated crystals are unfortunately rare.

In the past I found a particular vein which seemed to produce a higher than average number of crystal faces as well as terminated crystals.  I had dug this vein down about 3 feet and back filled it in the past already so I was reluctant to dig it all back out and begin where I left off.  Nevertheless, hours of failing to find any other productive vein throughout the property made this buried vein seem increasingly more attractive.  Well, turns out I was happy with my decision.  Here's a nice little pocket I found at about the 4 foot depth.   Wink

Although the last two pictures seem similar they are two different specimens.

Well, at least you softened the ground with the first dig/fill.

I made a video that shows many of my finds because photographs just don't do it justice sometimes.  I'll try to work on getting it edited and posted tonight.

Here's the video.  The large ones weren't facet grade but many of the smaller ones were.
