Garnets and smoky quartz on feldspar

I never even realized this specimen I purchased years ago had hyalite opal on it until I started researching my specimen online this evening.  I put a short wave lamp to it and sure enough small areas of hyalite glowed bright green.  So bright in fact that I was able to have it partially lit with regular light without suppressing the hyalite glow.

Spessartine Garnet with Hyalite Opal and Smoky Quartz from Tongbei-Yunling District, Fujian Province, China

Nice pics Scott!  I have some Garnets on Feldspar from there as well but the black light didn't show anything on my specimen.  You win!

Thanks!  I've been really trying new techniques and taking tons of pictures lately during all this cold weather.  If you're a Tar Heel Gem & Mineral club member, stay tuned as I'll be doing one of the programs in the coming months.  I'll be discussing my techniques, my set up, and simple guide lines for others interested in gem and mineral photography.  Photography cannot be taught in an hour so I'll be summarizing the best I can all the most important aspects, along with a display of many of my photographs.

Do you have a short wave or long wave UV lamp Collin?  I was using a short wave lamp.
