I'm more into Gold prospecting than rockhounding, but seem to be finding more rocks than gold. I seem  to have a knack for making "deals" and meeting strangers that become friends.  I stay east of Raleigh, near Greenville and go "hunting" most of the time around Red Oak. I've found some Garnets that I gave to my buddy that goes with me up that way sometimes.

Welcome EquineFencer, I don't make too much distinction between gold or rock hunting as they both are looking for precious earth treasures so I would consider it rockhounding too  Wink.  Glad to have another gold prospector join us.  Have you done any hunting near the Portis gold mine in Franklin County?

Welcome from central Virginia.  Willingness and ease with knocking on doors, talking to strangers and making friends is probably the prospector's most valuable skill here in the east where private land is the main game!
