Finally got the kayak wet.

And it felt great, too! Smiley
With all the rain lately I was watching the lakes start to rise and submerge
all that shoreline I have, so far, only talked about taking a look at.
So I had to go.
And now, I'm sorry to say, I'm a going to share it with you. HA! All of it!

There I many places at Falls Lake I need to investigate more, but I had to go and see what's been going on
at my near and dear Barton's Creek.

Putting in just below the parking lot. Second pic is of the first inlet, an easy walk from the parking lot.

Yeah, there wasn't a whole lot of sun today.
I'm going to pull up on this first little point here. You usually see a few flakes.

But that's not where we're going.
We want to go right down here and go around that first red clay point on the right.

Then we want to get over to that white-ish beach area inbetween those two goalpost looking dead trees.
There's a nice Woodland site washing out right over there.
I scared some deer from there summer lake house as I pulled up.

Now since this a Woodland site, they made real arrowheads. Pretty little triangular points.
This also means the flakes and/or chips you are looking for are also real small.
So you gotta go slow. Which is good.
Seeing as how there is so much "soapstone" in this area you also want to keep an eye out for any carved artifacts.
I also hadn't noticed before how crystalline some of the quartz veins are here.
All fractured and blocky but very clear.

I like to make piles of chips while I'm hunting an area so I don't have to find the same ones over.
First pic is of one of those piles. The last pic is some of the quartz.
The rest are the artifacts found at this site.

That pile of stuff is still sitting there. I wonder if anyone will find it? Lips Sealed

Lucky for you, there's still one more "site" that needs to be checked before we head back.

That last point there on the right.
The third pic is the second one upside down.
Perty cool. Cheesy

Are you having fun yet? Well get a load of this.

I dock the boat on this last point, get out and toss the paddle down.
Look what's right at the end of the paddle!

So this is the last stretch of shoreline to check.
And a pretty spot it is, too.

And the artifacts.
The little quartz point is a whole arrowhead, except for the one bottom corner you can see is broken.
We will call it a "Caraway" and dates to the 18th century.

Allright, on the way out, (if you haven't left all ready  Wink),
you have to look at the Soapstone Shoreline!
Mixtures of talc schist and chlorite schist and mica and actinolite schist.
Some with more talc, some with more chlorite and mica, some just plain schist.
Kyanite, actinolite needles, radiating schorl sprays, and even rubies aren't out of the question.

I love the lake. Wink

Great report Joe.  It appears this went unnoticed.  I'm guessing the shoreline is covered once again by all the water, just getting ready for the next time.

Next time give me a shout and I'll bring the canoe.  I'm sure we could bring back a few yard rocks in it

Thanks, Collin. Yeah, this was just for us headhunters. Wink
I haven't been by the lake since all the rain, but I'm sure it's almost full again.
Jordan might be still be down a little.
Next time we're going to have to try harder to get our feet wet!

yep Joe, you nailed it just in time. Great report!

And no dice on Jordan, it went from way low to up into the trees.

Great report again Joe.  It was nice being able to pretty much walk the shoreline along with you.  I've not seen so many finds all at once -- that was a good day.
