Come on now. Is "the little boy who lives down the lane" for real
or are you just trying to rhyme with dame? Cheesy

Anyway, you're too late. Put the package in the mail to you this morning.
Guess you'll have to let the landowner take his pick. Wink

Half serious. I do give away tumbled amazonite and quartz points to random kids when going through airports or seeing parents struggle with fidgety youngsters in restaurants Etc.

Joe, don't apologize for penmanship. These days it's a real treat to get a longhand letter! Love the bag by bag descriptions.

Joe - Yesterday I gave these to the landowner and told him how a friend in NC cabbed them. Heretofore, no one had given them anything made from the stones of their farm.
He came down to check on me toward dusk and asked if I had found anything good. I came prepared, so I reached into my shirt pocket and said, "Here, these are for you and the missus." A big smile spread across his face, and that was all the thanks necessary. We could not have done it without you!

Joe what grit and wheel type did you use for the initial grinding and for the following stages?  I was playing with some chrysoprase awhile ago which i think has a similar hardness and I am pretty sure I was aggravating the existing fractures with a 100 grit steel wheel.  I am now the proud owner of some super apple green microscope fodder.  I only paid 50 cents for the chunk but it was still painful.

Moonstone looks challenging frustrating and fun.  Do any of you have any rough from these more southerly parts?

Hey dirts,
Yes, the moonstone is a tricky but fun stone to work with.
I'm glad I got to check some of Tim's out. I really don't know where known good sources are on the east coast.
Mostly I recall them being further north, so I don't have any idea if any workable material is found in Georgia. Good question.

As far as hardness goes between the moonstone and chrysoprase, there isn't much difference.
moonstone, 6-6.5
chrysoprase, 6.5-7
My rough wheels are 80 and 100, and would use them on either material depending on how much rough I want to remove.
That piece of chrysoprase probably was already full of fractures for it to fall apart that way.
Now the moonstone would be a little different story. Wink
And I'm assuming you were using that 100 grit wheel wet.

Sorry, I can't help you out with your tumbling questions but I don't have one so I don't have much experience with them.
I passed on a nice unit for sale last year and I probably should've gotten it.

Good luck with the grindin'. Smiley
