Really cool Joe!  The full name explains the complex intricacies of beautiful slabs but it doesn't exactly roll off your tongue  Smiley.  "Jasper" works for me.

Agreed, Julie. In fact back when I was first finding this stuff and asking around as to what it might be
everyone wanted to call it Jasper. The only reason I can't call it jasper is because most of it is not hard enough.
Jasper is in the quartz family and "most" of this material does not have enough silica to qualify.
Thanks for looking. Smiley

Just want to add a couple more pics of some pieces of Chatham rock.

First one is a real pretty block of maroon mudstone.
The squiggly vein of "gold" isn't. But there could be "some" in there. Wink
The reflecting light is giving it the gold color. Not sure yet if it is chalcedony or what?
I love the scene on the bottom of this piece. last pic.

This is a great slab. I need to find some more of this. Wink
I have been told by geologists that the darker granular top half is a lava flow that formed on top of, or intruded, the green layers of volcanic ash siltstone, or, wavy stuff. Huh
Here's too many pictures.

Here's another piece of what I call the Purple Mudstone Hornfel.
This one has a great example of what is called "Boudinage".

As always that's some beautiful rock.  I'm glad you were able to distinguish that quickly when you first found them and then go back to collect more from the source.  Cheesy

And some new slabs and a new discovery!
The white areas in this rock are often Calcite and not mainly Quartz.
Last pic of first set of slabs is long wave uv. Very pretty fluorescence in some of the pure white areas.

I've been experimenting with framing some of the slabs from Chatham County. Starting out with just black and white frames but could add some color. I left the edges of the slabs in the first picture natural, un-manicured, so it was hard to add any other slabs to it, but I'm still looking. I apologize the lighting on the pictures of the frames is not better. Saved my favorite for last. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Smiley
