Aurora Fossil Fest 2016

Hope you all are having a great Memorial Day Weekend, despite the weather. Smiley

John and I went down for the Fossil Fest again this year, and again had a great time.
Lots of interesting people to talk to, plenty to look at, and of course, fossils to dig.
We are all ready looking forward to going back next year.

One of these years I'm going to take pictures of the festival, but everything is happening at once
during the festival and it's hard to take the time out to do that.

Anyway, we decided to lodge in Oriental Friday night, so after setting up the tents and tables
we took a ride across the phosphate mine. Pic 1. Not much to see from the car window but the place is HUGE!
And then some pics walking around Oriental waterfront.

So we had to get up early to get back up to Aurora Saturday morning to be all set up by 8am.
We took the Bay City Highway thru Bayboro. "Sunrise Over Bayboro".

Home again, I had to unload and unpack today, and take stuff back to the storage unit.
On the way home from the unit I stopped by a high school in the area that is putting in some new tennis courts.
They had it scraped nice and level and I had time to pull this one little 2 inch tessin
out of a 6 inch fissure cutting across a segregated quartz vein in between showers.
Been a pretty nice weekend, Hope yours is. Wink

That's funny, I went to the Aurora Fossil Festival this weekend too.  Spent a good chunk of Saturday morning through early afternoon there, did the bus tour of PCS phosphate mine, played in the festival fossil material, got very dirty, had fun.  Smiley

We camped across the river at Goose Creek State Park.  I hadn't been there before, but enjoyed the stay.  Nice park, nice primitive campground, and we lucked out with weather since it didn't rain until Sunday.

Well how in the world did we not see each other!?
Anyway, glad you made it to the festival, lizzie, and I hope you found some good stuff in the piles! Smiley
Although I wasn't seeing folks find as many nice big teeth as they were last year.

Thanks, Scott. Since I'm not usually up to see the sunrise I thought I had better document it! Wink
