Cutting and polishing stones - Newbie question

I have found a few nice quartz pieces that I would like to polish. One in particular would not lend to putting it in a tumbler as I would like to square it up as it is roughly square now. Do the local clubs have facilities to cut/polish? As it says in the title, I am rank amateur and have no knowledge on how to operate the gear but would be willing to take the time to learn. Thanks in advance....

You'll have to ask your local club if they do.  The Tarheel Club in Raleigh does have access to lapidary equipment.  Depending on the natural shape of your stone you may have to trim it with a trim saw before cabbing it.
