Rutile Crystal Blues

It looks like we've both been grinding some quartz lately, Scott.

A while ago I purchased a 2 1/2 pound Brazillian quartz crystal full of golden rutile needles.
The exterior of the crystal was all dinged and damaged, so it was the perfect cutter.
That and the fact that it had this one 3 inch long golden spray in it that I really wanted to see in a cab.

I cut the top half of the crystal off to get to the spray and then was quite happy with the way the cab cuts went.
I was really happy with the way the big 3 incher had come out,
until I dropped it just finishing it up on the final polish. Shocked
As it fell toward the bare cement floor I had time to ask myself why the big ugly shag rug
that I "always" put down before polishing wasn't there,
and then time after that, before it actually hit, to get over it. Cry

Beautiful!  So sad to see the one that hit the ground.

Beautiful cabs Joe.  Well done!

I've gotten into the habit of placing my flat lap polishing unit on the floor so if things go flying they won't smack the ground so hard.  Sorry about the accident. I'm going to guess the rug will be there on your next cab.  Shocked

Wow, Joe!  Those are really beautiful pieces!  Even the broken one.... Sad.  Sorry for your mishap.

Thanks y'all. It's hard to go wrong with golden rutile,
unless you drop it. Wink
