Construction on the corner of Glenwood and 440

Alex, Josh, and I decided to do some prospecting at a few construction sites this weekend.  First stop to a large construction site off of highway 98 and Stony Hill Rd. in Wake Forest, NC. This site is very close to another one where we had found crystals and amethyst in the past so we were pumped for this trip. We found random pieces of soapstone and artifact chips. Josh actually found one broken artifact. Unfortunately, no signs of crystals, or the amethyst we were looking for.

So on our way to the next prospecting site Josh, just so happened to spot a new construction site on the corner of the I-440 beltline and Glenwood Ave.  So we took the next exit and found it straight away.

All the signs of alpine-type fissures where we find our crystals were there! Yes! Quartz rock could be found on the surface! Yes!! Where were the crystals? Not here.  Sad

If you look at the last two images, there was one particularly large fissure where there was some very minor but ugly crystallization but that was the best we found there. It may be worth checking again after some good rain but I would be satisfied crossing this one off the list.

Although there's no way to avoid feeling a little defeated after a hard day of prospecting without a thing to show for it, it plays a tremendous role in having prospecting success in the future. By keeping note of every place we've been and found nothing, we're able to zero in by process of elimination the area or zone in which crystallization is most likely to occur. By placing a pin on a map at every place we have found something we can further define this zone of goodness. If anything we still enjoyed a very relaxing day in great weather while getting some healthy exercise.   Wink

Heck yeah! Atleast now you don't have to drive by the spot for the rest of your life
wondering just how HOT that spot was and kicking yourself for not checking it when you had the chance! Wink
I haven't seen the Glenwood spot. I'll give it a second look for you sometime.
We checked New Hope Road, Knightdale and Clayton and found the same as you.
Unfortunately we were too late to those spots to get a good look.
But we're supposed to get more rain this week. Smiley

You all might want to check out the new construction at the corner of HWY 1 and Stadium in Wake Forest.  They have a wall cut into the bank.  Good luck.

Oh you guys are so spoiled! I'd be happy to see that ugly quartz so close to home. It was trying just as much as it could to squeeze out more faces and points!  Grin
