Fossilized palm rootball?

This came from a sand and clay quarry near the Little River in Goldsboro NC.  The black chip looks like a cross section of a palm tree trunk when viewed closely.

That's a nice looking, well preserved piece of petrified wood.

I can't tell from them if it's palm wood or not, but I'm pretty sure that piece could be identified and dated.
I'd like to see it sliced down the middle and polished, just to get a better look at it. Wink
I know a lot of folks that love to collect that petrified wood. Nice find!
