Found Thanksgiving Day at my favorite central Virginia creek. Most finds are in saprolite, but sometimes in hard rock like this. Photos: In situ. In situ closeup. Cleaned front. Cleaned back.

Shocked Whoa, that's a lot of moonstone, that's gorgeous!
We got out on Thanksgiving day too but didn't have much luck at all

I also found another vein in clay. Not the best quality but ok. Lots of Schiller though. The larger pieces were partitioned by thin chalky layers of feldspar. I could snap the sections apart in my hands. Here are some of the nicer pieces.

The vein was at my feet in the creek terrace bottom. Rebecca sat on a log right next to it on a previous visit, and just _knew_ something good was near. But she didn't find this as it was under water and under mud at the time. I scooped up the surface cluster all in one grab and put it in a separate bag. Maybe someone might want it for its jigsaw puzzle value as well as the stone itself. In the overall view, enlarge and look to the right of the red trowel. That is the second layer after I scooped up the first.
