Found at Kilbourne Hole, NM

I found this at Kilbourne Hole in NM. It is entirely different from anything else I found there. Peridot is the main collectible at that location; you can hardly take a step without walking on some. Facet grade stuff is rare, however, as most peridot "bombs" from Kilbourne are composed of rock-salt sized grains of peridot packed together in a basalt shell. These bombs can be cracked open like an egg causing the peridot grains to come apart into a pile. Anyway, the piece I found is striated rather than granular, and is darker green than most peridot. Any help identifying what it is will be appreciated.

I'm not sure if there is another way to attach images, but when I click on the link at the bottom of the message, the image loads and appears. Is anyone else not able to see the image?

Yes, jeepcj779 I'm able to click on and view your photo.  Sorry Joe not sure whats up with your PC.  That's a beautiful rock you have.  It looks almost like glass slag or volcanic glass.

It is in the same exterior shape and composition as other "bombs" I found at Kilbourne Hole, but it is much darker green and not granular like the others. I agree it looks like volcanic glass, but the green color is throwing me off of that a bit. I also found obsidian lying around. I'll dig out a couple more pictures of other things I collected for comparison.

Beautiful specimens! Im guessing from the looks of it you had to crack/pry into some hard rock to pop out those gems

Thanks, but collecting was not difficult at all. One rap with the rock hammer and most of the peridotite/olivine xenolith "bombs" fall right apart. I had to open a couple hundred to find the good stuff, but you can hardly take a step without finding something interesting.
