Minerals found in fossils

Tried to figure this out on my own but didn't find any clear answers. My family found this pretty specimen and wanted to know if anyone would have an idea of what it is. Thank you in advance.

This looks a lot like calcite.  If you can easily scratch it with a metal knife there's a good chance it is.  Otherwise, I would say quartz.

If you don't already know about it check out the Moh's Scale of hardness as a means of helping to identify minerals:

Calcite is 3 and quartz is 7.

Thanks for the information, tried the scratch test and I didn't see any marks on the mineral so I would assume it's quartz.
