I didn't find this metal detecting, but rather on the surface of a large pile of excavated soils on a job site near Philadelphia. A very, very rare Dr. J.S. Rose's Eye Water bottle. Rose started practicing in Philly in 1825 and sold his own proprietary medicines in the 1840s and '50s. J.S. Rose bottles are rare, and this is only the second Eye Water bottle known to exist. I was offered a very, very handsome sum of money for this but declined.

I forgot I posted about this. Get this:. I found a SECOND Eye Water bottle on top of a small soil pile about a month or so after I found the first, then I found A THIRD Eye Water bottle and a broken one right next to it in the sidewall of a huge soil pile that was being used as fill. So now I have three of the four Dr. J. S. Rose's Eye Water bottles known to exist. I was told finding an open pontil bottle is hard enough, but finding three of the same is next to impossible.

The second and third bottles with minor cleaning right after I found them. I learned that they were all blown in the same mold. The open pontils are very cool!
