Any ideas on these? Both come from a little gold/copper deposit in Guilford County.

1) What is the small white feathery mineral imbedded within the hematite? within pyrite within limonite?

2) What is the silvery coating/deposit that is on top of hematite? in the vug, this is a bad picture, but if you follow me, it is definitely a crust or coating, almost has some translucence to it.

For the second one, i suppose its totally feasible that the silver mineral is hematite and the black is some mix of iron oxides....?

I think you pretty much nailed that second one, dave, Wink
but that first one is pretty cool. We should now what those little white spikes are.  Huh
And what is that matrix material mixture? Going to have to look at that one some more.

Magnify the white crystals to see their structure.  They are reminiscent of Cerussite that is found in gold, silver, copper deposits like Silver Hill and Redmond mines.

Cerussite "may" fluoresce a yellow under LW UV.
Aragonite may fluoresce a more reddish orange color and the dipyramidal structure should be easy-er to spot.
I would like to know the chemistry of that porphyritic mud matrix. What are those little white spots? Huh

cerussite and aragonite both seem very feasible.

As to the matrix, Joe, the outside rind i believe is limonite that has oxidized drastically down to the core of pyrite. The black interior, no clue but i suspect any mix of hematite and iron minerals. I'll try to get a close up, but no LW UV here, so that'll have to wait.
