Hi everyone,
A little about myself: I love exploring, although I am new to rock-hounding.  Previously I have been more focused on animal and plant life than minerals and artifacts.  I have lived in Raleigh for nearly two decades, and recently have been taking my two daughters with me on trips to state and local parks.  They are fascinated with rocks and gems, so I did some research on gem mines in North Carolina (I was surprised by how many there are) and eventually I found some rock-hounding videos that led here.  I was amazed at the minerals (quartz crystals and amethysts especially) that can be found right here in Raleigh.  My daughters and I went on our first creek expedition a couple of weeks ago, and we found our first few quartz crystals.  Maybe I'll post pictures of our finds.   Definitely interested in learning & exploring more!
