I know that aquamarine has some iron in it, but would it be enough iron to set off a metal detector?
Are there any rocks in western NC aside from gold that would set off a metal detector?

No, aqua won't set off a metal detector. I don't even think Hematite will. Maybe some Iron concretions will?
I've only heard of detectors being used for gold, but good question. I wonder if there are any minerals folks hunt with metal detectors?

Now that you mention it, Yes, I have seen metal detectors used for pyrite. Mainly at Glendon.

This is something I have been curious about recently anyone ha e any more information on it? I am going to try to looking it some myself. I do sometimes bring a large neodymium magnet with me to look for random things when I hunt. I pick up small garnets in creeks by the masses sometimes.

Yes, metal detectors will pick up what we call hot rocks which can sometimes be a nuisance when looking for gold at my place, Treasure Valley.
