Danny,

It looks like cut slab of Variscite, possibly from the southwestern U.S.  A quick Google search of Variscite images will show you a lot of similar specimens.

Can you give any information on the piece?

Yes that looks like it.  My Grandfather was a rock hound and cut his own stones. I don't know exactly where he got it but he use to go rock hunting.

If the specimen was mine, I'd put in a stand and display it in my mineral room on a shelf or bookcase.  A piece that size is too valuable and nice to keep outdoors where it could get damaged or stolen.

Some of the best Variscite comes from Utah, and if you did some research you might be able to find a general locality for it.
