I believe the photo is real yes.  I found another reference on facebook:

Doing a bit of research and I found an interesting article about an outcrop of Jaspalite called Jasper Hill (Jasper Knob) in Michigan that is supposedly the worlds largest "gemstone".  Although not pure jasper, it is composed of banded hematite and jasper.
